TPO, short for thermoplastic polyolefin, is a single-ply roofing system that can be applied over your existing roofing structure. This reflective, rubberized material comes in rolls that are chemically adhered or mechanically fastened directly to your roof.
Why bother? The cost of a tear-off and replacement is significantly higher than the cost of adding TPO to the existing structure. Additionally, it is much quicker to complete, results in less disruption of your business and reduces tear-off debris and clean up.
Installation of TPO
Installation of a TPO system is a fairly straightforward process. When you call Roman’s Roofing and Restoration, you should expect the following to occur:
- Initial Consultation. One of our highly experienced team members will meet with you. We will inspect your existing roofing situation and provide you with appropriate options to meet your needs.
- Scheduling the installation. We will work within your schedule to minimize any disruption the installation of your new TPO roofing system may cause.
- Cleaning the roof. Step one in a professional TPO installation is a thorough cleaning of the existing roofing system. Dirt and debris must be thoroughly removed to ensure a good, quality adherence of the TPO materials.
- Preparation. If the TPO is being mechanically fastened, decking is applied to the roofing structure with fasteners put in place. If chemical adhesion is your preferred process, the structure is prepared by applying the adhesion materials.
- Installation. TPO materials are then rolled out onto the prepared using an overlapping pattern. Overlaps are heat welded to protect against separation. Each weld is checked with a probe to ensure quality workmanship.
- Protrusions. Protrusions, like HVAC units or ventilation systems, as well as metal flashings, are hand wrapped with the same TPO materials and then heat sealed to ensure complete protection.
- Cleanup. No job is complete until the cleanup is done. With Roman’s Roofing and Restoration, the only evidence we will leave behind is your beautiful new roofing system.
Benefits of a TPO Roofing System
TPO has many benefits in our Iowa climate. Here are just a few.
- Time. TPO applies directly to your existing roofing system. This reduces the time necessary for the job to be completed.
- Cost. As the time involved is reduced, so is the cost to you.
- Energy Efficient. TPO is available in different color options. By selecting a light color, like white, you can reflect the sun’s heat away from your building. This simple step has been shown to reduce cooling costs up to 30%.
- Increased Longevity. TPO applied to your roofing structure increases the lifespan of that structure for years or even decades in some instances.
- Durability. TPO is resistant to ultraviolet rays and chemical exposure. Additionally, it resists bacteria, debris, dirt and algae. The flexibility of the TPO membrane allows it to be puncture and tear resistant and stand up to impact damage.
- Energy Star Rated. TPOs white reflective surface exceeds the EPAs requirements for Energy Star rating. The white, tan and gray options are all indexed with the Cool Roof Rating Council.
Roman’s Roofing and Restoration prefers Conklin’s Outpost® brand TPO for our customers.
